CA CCW DENIAL REASONS

Best CCW Training, or instructor's are not liable for any information on this topic. It is your sole responsibility to determine if you may or may not be denied a CCW permit in CA.

For further information, contact your CA sheriff's department directly with your concerns. The Sheriff is the sole issuing authority.

This list is denial reasons, in general. You may have one or more of the below in your background, and it may be possible for you to receive a permit.

In general, an issuing authority wants to see that you are an outstanding citizen, as CCW permit holders are expected to adhere to higher standards than the average citizen.

In the event of a denial, refer to your denial notice, or research your sheriff's department (or issuing authority) website, or do further online research with other sources, for the appeal process.

 

Common CCW denial reasons in CA:

Your county has a strict policy on issuing CCW permits

Dishonesty on any part of your CCW application, or throughout your interview/background check

Failure to follow instructions/directions (training class requirements, etc).

Criminal history (arrests, law enforcement contacts, etc). Any felony conviction and/or arrest and length of time elapsed since the last conviction or arrest

Failure to disclose information (as required on the DOJ application)

Mental history

Acts involving moral turpitude

Driving record (excessive points) or excessive infractions with no points

Any 2 point (misdemeanor) violation which is currently on your driving record

Illegal drug or substance usage (past or present)

Probation or parole

Restraining Orders

Acts involving anger (fights, bar fights), etc.

Suspect in a crime (possibly even without law enforcement contact) - computer crimes, etc

ANY OTHER DISQUALIFYING FACTORS (REASONS) AS SPECIFIED ON THE CA DOJ APPLICATION. REFER TO THE CA DOJ APPLICATION FOR SPECIFIC DISQUALIFYING FACTORS.
